Each year two pupils are chosen as Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO) from every primary school in Glasgow to work with Glasgow City Council’s Road Safety Officers.
On 13th September 2017, 300 youngsters attended the annual JRSO Induction event at the City Chambers.
JRSOs are appointed from primary 6 or 7 to carry out their duties for a whole year. Their duties include displaying a noticeboard in their schools with road safety information and advice, organising and running road safety competitions within all classes in their school and delivering class and assembly talks about road safety issues around their school and local community. There is also a JRSO website for the JRSOs to use which gives advice and information to help them carry out their duties in their newly appointed position.
JRSOs are given support from the Road Safety Officers throughout the year and the Induction day at the City Chambers gave pupils an overview of what is expected of them and they also received their road safety resources.
